Croatia
it is where the Alps, Mediterranean and panonian Plain converge.
Croatia embraces both Central European and Mediterranean cultures.
There are numerous cultural and historical munuments of great
significance in Croatia, four of which are listed on the UNESCO
World Heritage list: the Palace of the Emperor Diocletian in Split,
the old centre in Trogir, the Basilica of Euphrasius in Poreč
and elegant Dubrovnik. The
romanesque cities of Krk, Rab, Pag, Korčula, Zadar, Šibenik, are
also cultural sites of exceptional beauty. In the continental
part of Croatia, there are medieval castles, picturesque cities
and towns such as Varaždin, Zagreb, Osijek.
There are eight national parks to visit: the Plitvice Lakes, Paklenica,
Risnjak and North Velebit, Kornati archipelago, Brijuni, the Krka
river, wooded Adriatic island of Mljet. The warm currents, wich
come from the Mediterranean and pass up the Croatian Adriatic
coast, provide the basis for a pleasant climate and vacation.
